Open Funding Service & Community Development

Background

Open Innovation is about collaboration in development of content and services in a context where cultural, legal or geographic borders and differences are much lower barriers than in the pre-internet era.

This project is based on a donation from eZ System of the code that is powering their Open Funding service. The service is used by eZ Systems, more than 200 development partners and 3 000 customers across the globe. This Ecosystem use this service to invite, prioritize and co-fund development of new functionality or new services that is too big for one customer, one partner or eZ Systems to fund alone.

Project Goals

This project focuses on developing an Open Funding service for the Norwegian public . The Open Funding service will remove the administrative cost of manually developing ideas, prioritizing and negotiating terms of a collaborative project. Through automation of the suggestion, prioritizing and funding processes this initiative lowers the barrier to cooperate on new content and/or software and handling of the IPR issues of the cooperative effort. The project will develop:

  • the software used by eZ for their Open Funding service into a similar Open Funding marketplace that can be used by the 435 Norwegian municipalities to efficiently fund collaborative development projects.
  • the community and the ecosystem around this service where others are invited to add new functionality or new adaptations of the service to other types of projects or other private or public sectors.
  • the Open Innovation Center as a "Service Manager" of the Open Funding service, the community and the ecosystem.
